Hi, I am Kelly Richardson the founder of Fashion Entrepreneurs of Houston. This is the first video of a series of videos that are designed to help you improve your business. Each week a new video will be introduced that will cover a range of topics such as getting started with your business, how to get more customers, and strategies to get more followers on social media. These videos serve as a guide. Keep in mind there’s more than one way of doing things. At the end of each short video, there will be an action for you to take to put into practice what you’ve learned in the video. The idea behind this is, if you take a little action each week, the sum of those actions can produce great results over the course of a year, helping you to build good habits of consistently working to improve your business. Please follow along with the videos each week.
Let’s get started! Today’s video will inform you “why you need a website”. A website could be your most effective tool to help you increase the profitability of your business. I am going to tell you three reasons why having a website helps your business make more money.
Reason Number 1- Credibility. People trust people, in other words, you want your website visitors to trust you. Do you think a business with a website or a business without a website is more credible? How about a business with a website that has an about page with a picture and description of the owner along with a history of the company, versus a business website, that just states a mission statement on the about page? Your website allows you to showcase your experience and expertise, your work, your products, and convey to potential customers that you are a legitimate business that they can trust with their hard-earned money. It’s also a great tool for communicating with potential investors, partners, and media about who you are.
Reason Number two is Accessibility. In order to sell to your customers, they need to be able to find you. Before making a purchase, many of today’s consumers look up product information and reviews before making a purchase. If you don’t have a website how will people be able to find you and find out additional information about your products and services along with purchasing options? With a website, customers can reach you all over the world, any time of the day, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
And finally, reason number three- Ownership. Unlike other platforms where your customers may find you, such as social media, there is no censorship over what you can post, you will not be banned from using your website and subject to losing your audience base if the site becomes unpopular or shuts down you still have access to your audience, and users will not be distracted by advertising, competitor content, and notifications. You own it. You control your message. You maintain your customer database. You control how your products and services are presented.
Having a website gives you a competitive advantage over others that do not have a website. If consumers don't trust you, can't find out more about your offerings, or you lose the ability to stay in touch with your audience they'll be less likely to make a purchase from you. Build trust, get found and control how the world views your business. Credibility, accessibility, and ownership,-three reasons why you need a website.
Your action for this week is to review the Website Design Worksheet and identify areas for improvement. If you don’t already have a website also view our video on “How to get started with your website”. In our upcoming videos, you will learn tips on how to craft the individual pages of your website. Thank you for watching. See you next time.
Consumers are looking online and conducting research before making a purchase
They want to know more about your offerings and that your business is a credible business to buy from and you can demonstrate that with your website
With a website, you're not subject to involuntarily losing access to your customer base as with other online platforms
